Per cent for art commission | Irishtown, County Mayo

Mayo County Council in collaboration with Irishtown Community Council invite artist(s) to submit proposals for a public art commission for the community of Irishtown in County Mayo. This commission is an exciting opportunity for an artist(s) to work in a historic village with a strong community spirit. Proposals are welcome from both individuals and collaborative artistic teams.

This commission is part of Mayo County Council’s Public Art Programme, funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Per Cent for Art Scheme. Proposed outcomes can be ephemeral, temporary or semi-permanent in a nature.

Budget

The total budget for the commission is €14,000 for design, supply, installation or production costs, artist’s fee and any community involvement initiatives, inclusive of all costs, VAT, insurance and other charges.

Site visit

There will be a site visit facilitated by Mayo Arts Service and the Community Council to do walkabout of the village on Saturday 27 November 2021. Artists do not have to attend this if they are unable to and are welcome to apply for the commission regardless of their attendance. Site visit will be in accordance with current Covid-19 guidelines. Booking is required.

Nazareth Housing Association provides independent living houses for individuals and couples who are 65 and over and on the Sligo County Council housing list.  Nazareth Village is comprised of 48 houses in a garden setting.  The Village was financed as a public-private partnership between Nazareth Housing Association and Sligo County Council with funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
