Commission opportunity which ENGAGES local community, Monaghan. Ireland. Budget £47,000 stg. Deadline: 7/11/2014

Blackwater Regional Partnership, Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council are calling for expressions of interest for a new public artwork for Monaghan Town, from experienced and suitably qualified artist(s), or design team.

The provision of a major piece of artwork is an exciting challenge and will be enthusiastically anticipated by the local population in Monaghan town. The project will be based on close community engagement and involvement, during the design and production of the final piece of artwork.

It is essential that the artwork would mean something to the local residents, instilling a sense of pride in the area.

The piece of public art should reflect the heritage of the Ulster Canal and the theme on “Moving On”. The selected artwork will become identifiable with Monaghan and the Ulster Canal.

The total budget available for the artwork is £47,000 (excl. VAT).

The Commission Steering Group is inviting Expression Of Interest applications from artists/design teams, from which a suitably selected and qualified panel (Project Steering Group) can shortlist artists to work up detailed design proposals. To date, a Facilitating Artist has been employed, to engage with the local community and prepare a report, which has resulted in the Artist’s Brief.

Stage 2 will depend on the Project Steering Group shortlisting a maximum of 3 artists/design teams, who will then be invited to work up detailed design proposals, for presentation, to the selection panel.

Shortlisted artists/design teams will be notified by week 10th November 2014. Design proposals, including models, if supplied, will be presented, by artists, in person, to the Steering Group, on Tuesday 16 December 2014.  The successful artist(s) / design team will be notified during the following week.
