Artwork title | Urban Utopias |
Description | Urban Utopias is a project by artists David Stalling and Anthony Kelly, commissioned by Engineers Ireland in 2007 for their annual engineering conference. The work consisted of a series of loudspeaker installations and headphone listening posts, and an audiovisual element in the form of a 12-minute projected video. The field recordings contained in the exhibition were made using binaural microphones, a recording technique that spatially transcends normally recorded stereo. It accurately reproduces the effect of hearing a sound-in-person, given the 360 degree nature of how human ears pick up nuances in the sound waves. |
Mediation | Engineers Ireland funded a printed publication with audio CD relating to the project. This publication included an essay by Jay Roche. This publication is available at Far Point Recordings The essay and audio CD were also included in the Engineers Ireland conference publication. |
Biographies | Dublin-based artists Anthony Kelly and David Stalling have been collaborating on a series of sound and visual pieces since 2003, which have been widely exhibited. |
