Saoirse Cainte

Artist Name(s) Fiona Mulholland
Artwork title Saoirse Cainte
Description

‘Saoirse Cainte’ (Freedom of speech) is an 18ft tall, laser-cut stainless steel sculpture which was commissioned for a new school, Coláiste Ailigh College in Letterkenny.

Mulholland based her design on the written word and the cultural heritage of County Donegal, while the sculpture’s formal elements reflect the modern architecture of the new building. The artist’s overall aim was to reflect the strength of purpose, the modernity and the academic confidence exuded by the college.
