Flow

Artist Name(s) Vivienne Roche
Artwork title Flow
Description

This commission came about as part of the construction of the new county hall in Swords, Co. Dublin. The architecturally ambitious building demanded artworks to match its unique presence and so it was agreed that artists would be invited to the building, given access to expertise from architects and engineers and come up with a proposal for the building.

Vivienne Roche was selected to design a piece for the Council's chamber. This relief sculpture is made of hand made glass, bronze and plaster. The theme is flow, the flow of information in the Council chamber and it is based on a shoreline in Garristown, Co. Cork. It also brings in the theme of water, Swords meaning source, originally a holy well at the back of the town. Flow is also the largest glass sculpture in Ireland.
