Context/Background Coláiste Pobail Setanta is a multi-denominational and co-educational post-primary school which opened in temporary accommodation in 2008. In November 2010, a permanent building for Coláiste Pobail Setanta was officially opened, with capacity for 1000 pupils, located in the recently established Phibblestown Educational Campus, Dublin 15, which also houses Phibblestown Community Centre and Scoil Gráinne Primary School – one of Ireland’s first Community National Schools.
Description

A tiled wall design created by Gearóid Muldowney for the courtyard of Colaiste Pobail Setanta secondary school in Phibblestown, Dublin 15. 67 ft of wall, to a height of 6ft, was tiled with 3240 ceramic tiles in 5 different colours. The installation abstractly depicts flags of the nations of the world. The tiles were made by Heath Ceramics in the USA - a manufacturer of artisan ceramics, founded in 1948. Tiler Declan O’Regan helped with the installation.

As stated by the artist, “A new diversity is present in our parks, villages, towns and schools. Different cultures, religions and traditions are learning to peacefully coexist together. This tiled wall installation celebrates this diversity”.
