Per cent for art commission | Craughwell Co. Galway

Craughwell village public art working group invites submissions from professional artists or collaboratives, at any stage of their career or experience, for a Per Cent for Art commission for Craughwell village in County Galway. The public art working group has selected a working title of ‘The River Runs through it’ for the commission based on the Dunkellin River which runs through Craughwell. The group are keen to commission artwork(s) that are contemporary, meaningful and lasting without being iconic or one single permanent artwork. The artist(s) should be willing to invite community engagement and participation and to welcome the involvement of new communities that are now inhabitants of the area.

Budget

The total budget for the commission is €41,000 including all artist expenses and VAT.

Brief

This is a two-stage competition. A shortlist of artists will be selected by panel jury and a a proposal development fee of €350 will be paid to the unsuccessful shortlisted artists. Nazareth Housing Association provides independent living houses for individuals and couples who are 65 and over and on the Sligo County Council housing list.  Nazareth Village is comprised of 48 houses in a garden setting.  The Village was financed as a public-private partnership between Nazareth Housing Association and Sligo County Council with funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
