Highlighting public art in healthcare – a call for information

artsandhealth.ie and publicart.ie are seeking examples of artwork commissioned under the Department of Health, Per Cent for Art Scheme between 2010 and 2020.

At artsandhealth.ie and publicart.ie, we would like to get a more comprehensive picture of artwork that has been or is being commissioned through the Irish Government Per Cent for Art Scheme in healthcare settings, over the last decade in particular (2010–2020).

As the national websites for arts and health and public art, we aim to work together (on a phased basis from 2020) to record and highlight the value and potential of public art in healthcare settings, and to explore the distinct role and contribution of the Per Cent for Art Scheme to artistic practice in healthcare settings in Ireland. Our first step is to update our knowledge of projects funded through the Per Cent for Art Scheme.

If you would like us to know about an arts project or artwork in a healthcare setting, that has been funded (in full or in part) through the Irish Government Per Cent for Art Scheme, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please email us by the close of business on Monday 31 August 2020 at info@artsandhealth.ie with the following information:

  • Your name and email address.
  • Your role in the project.
  • The name of the artist or artists involved (if additional / different to the details above).
  • The healthcare setting (or settings) that the work took place in and where any final artwork is currently located.
  • The year that the work / project was completed.
  • A list of any documentation about the project that is available including any high quality images and video. Please include web links where these are available.

We propose to use the information we gather to get a clearer sense of the number, type, and location of work that has been commissioned. Over time, we plan to develop opportunities for selected work to be highlighted. In 2020, a small number of projects will be selected, and contributors will be invited to write about the work for dissemination on artsandhealth.ie and publicart.ie. If selected, artist contributors will receive an honorarium for their case study.

Please feel free to circulate this request to anyone that you think may be interested and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
