Context/Background Sean Lynch was invited to consider notions of civic awareness and a sense of place in the Bridgetown area.
Description

From this starting point the artist researched the history and geography of Bridgetown and produced a series of photographs, capturing the concepts developed in his research. Residents from 45-50 Lakelands area received the contact sheets of the photographs and they themselves chose one photograph to be framed and presented to them.

Mediation

On the 18 January 2008, the Chairman of Wexford County Council, Cllr. Dennis Kennedy, and artist Sean Lynch presented the framed photographs to six residents of Lakelands in Bridgetown.

Biographies

Sean Lynch was born in Kerry in 1978. He studied history at the University of Limerick and fine art at the Stadelschule in Frankfurt. As an artist, Lynch's practice revolves around investigating a wide range of almost - forgotten historical subjects. His research, photographs and installations disclose and build upon fragile stories and objects, magnifying traces of an often idiosyncratic existence. A year-long commission is currently on show on the facade of the National Sculptural Factory, Cork. Lynch has also completed solo exhibitions at the Gallery of Photography, Dublin (2008), Context Gallery, Derry (2008), Heaven's Full, London (2008), Galway Arts Centre (2007), Limerick City Gallery of Art (2007), Ritter & Staiff, Frankfurt (2006). He has featured in recent group exhibitions at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, Kunstakademiets Udstilingssted, Copenhagen, and Office Baroque, Antwerp. Recently he was awarded the 2009 Banff Residency by the Arts Council, was resident on the Irish Museum of Modern Art's Artist Residency Programme in 2008.

Nazareth Housing Association provides independent living houses for individuals and couples who are 65 and over and on the Sligo County Council housing list.  Nazareth Village is comprised of 48 houses in a garden setting.  The Village was financed as a public-private partnership between Nazareth Housing Association and Sligo County Council with funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
