I.D

Artist Name(s) Sylvia Cullen
Artwork title I.D
Context/Background Devised around the twin themes of Identity and Heritage, I.D. was an interactive project, which brought teenagers together to explore the world of literature, as well as creating their own work.

Description

The teenagers were introduced to creative writing in two ways: firstly, through exploring the concept of creative texting using mobile phones; secondly, facilitating workshops in which the teenagers researched and wrote their own short stories, written in the first person. These short stories were performed as monologues by the participants on the 9 December 2008.

The monologues touched on themes such as friendship, isolation and conflict, where each character spoke directly to the audience about the dramatic situation they found themselves in. The performance showcased the literary capacity of the participants and celebrated the talent and ability of teenagers from Bunclody and surrounding areas.
